This is the private residence for the owners of  "Athiana Acres": A 30 acre regenerative and Certified Organic farm nestled in Steveston, British Columbia.

Mid Century Modernized

An original 1960 Bob Lewis Mid Century Modern home. TKL Design was thrilled to collaborate in shepherding this home and garden into a new century, all while respecting, honouring  and loving its heritage.

Bowen Island

A five acre waterfront estate/private compound with a large primary residence several secondary residences, dock, private beach and amenity structures, all nestled within a quintessential west coast waterfront setting. The goal for “Chuckanut Ridge” was to achieve an integrated, quiet and harmonious feeling between site and architecture.All aspects of the decision making process were informed by the client's wish for harmony and site integration. The sites strong East West horizontal spine is reflected in the landscape and architecture  unifying the built forms with the natural topography.

In collaboration with the clients, a design developed which harmonized with the architecture, harmonized with the site and harmonized with the requirements of the family.  The “Design Process” was joyful and collaborative. And the design process continues  as we develop ideas for the wall sculpture: We are finalizing the concept and will update with completed wall sculpture pictures very soon.

I feel very fortunate to have designed this garden in my capacity as Senior- Designer at M2 Landscape Architecture and working closely with the influential architect Doug Johnson.  Doug's architecture always inspires elegance, pure form and clean lines.

Beverly-Hills Mid Century Modern

Spear-headed by a highly creative client, this 1960 Beverly Hills Trousdale Mid Century Modern home has been completely renewed. With an eye on openness, seamless interior, exterior relationship and spareness, the unique angles and theme of this architectural jewel have all been retained and restored.

Design Sketches for a new build on Alta Lake...........Proud to be part of a team that received BP (Building Permit) in record time, while meeting  environmental standards, navigating strict design guidelines, and staying tightly focussed on creativity and design innovation. An example: The Glass pool functions as a large skylight to the basement level below and reflects the sky and lake into the living room by way of the large open glass windows. Whistler Alta Lake

A garden Upgrade

We started with a sublime  15 year old garden designed by  BattersbyHowat. Our job was to respectively and thoughtfully upgrade the landscape by first accommodating the clients new garden sauna building and sculpture collection all while integrating the "new" design with the "pre-existing" jewel. By understanding the "design language" of the garden and by retaining all the large trees, site lines and grading, we gently revised the understory planting,  added to and expanded on existing courtyards,  walkways, fencing, entry gates and steps, positioned the sculptures into the new courtyards, and finally topped everything off with new landscape lighting. We hope the result is a garden that reflects and respects the pre-existing masterpiece.

The forest is a magical place. Layers of green, calmness, stillness and serenity. This home sits adjacent to a forest. The design response was simple, keep it calm and serene.

Arthur Erickson:   The Perry Residence   (a renewal guided by principles)

I m a g i n e ……. After 65 years, Since Frank Perry built this house as an artists retreat,  it has remained untouched without upgrades or alterations. A young couple are the new custodians, and they are embarking on an incredible journey of renewal. Guiding us on this journey, are Arthur Erickson's’ four defining design principles:   SITE, LIGHT, CADENCE and SPACE:   By honoring, embracing and applying these principles, we lay the foundation for the Next 65 Years:

A Victorian Storybook

Inspired by the Romantic English Cottage style, this house and garden is carefree,  whimsical, playful and relaxed: With slightly over two acres the garden includes multiple courtyards, outdoor rooms, rose filled arbours, and romantic pathways  all surrounded with layered shrub borders  and majestic trees. Modern amenities include a zero edge pool, raised hot tub,  tennis court, soccer pitch, two motor- courtyards a separate gym facility and an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven.
